Job Overview:
The Construction Superintendent is responsible for day-to-day field leadership and execution of assigned construction projects. This role oversees on-site operations, including scheduling, site logistics, subcontractor coordination, safety compliance, and quality control. The Superintendent works closely with Project Managers and Project Engineers to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and in accordance with contract documents.
Key Responsibilities:
Project Coordination Leadership: Lead day-to-day field operations to ensure construction activities are executed in accordance with approved plans, specifications, and schedules. Coordinate labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractors to maintain production efficiency and support overall project objectives.
Trustworthy Communication: Maintain clear, consistent, and professional communication with project managers, project engineers, subcontractors, inspectors, owners, and design team members. Accurately report field progress, constraints, and issues to support informed decision-making and build trust across stakeholders.
Mindful Decision-Making: Proactively identify constructability issues, conflicts, and field conditions that may impact safety, quality, or schedule. Evaluate options thoughtfully and implement practical solutions that align with project goals while minimizing disruption and rework.
Collaboration: Provide leadership and direction to field personnel, fostering accountability, teamwork, and respect on the jobsite. Support a collaborative environment that encourages engagement, mentorship, and a shared commitment to quality execution.
Quality & Safety Assurance: Ensure all work is performed in accordance with contract documents, approved submittals, and MZN quality standards. Lead jobsite safety efforts by enforcing Cal/OSHA requirements, conducting regular safety meetings and inspections, and promoting a culture of safety-first execution.
Financial Awareness & Budget Support: Support the Project Manager by monitoring field productivity, material usage, and subcontractor performance. Identify potential cost impacts related to schedule changes, rework, or field conditions and communicate them promptly to assist with cost control.
Risk Management & Compliance: Identify and mitigate field-level risks related to safety, schedule, quality, and regulatory compliance. Ensure jobsite activities comply with applicable building codes, project specifications, and regulatory requirements, including familiarity with HCAI / OSHPD standards when applicable.
Minimum Qualifications:
5 years' experience in commercial construction field operations or related trade.
Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and safety regulations.
Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, and schedules.
Proficiency in construction technology and software, including Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat / Bluebeam, Project management and scheduling software (e.g., Procore, Primavera, or equivalent.)
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to prepare RFIs and verify work for compliance with approved submittals.
Strong teamwork mindset with the ability to collaborate across disciplines.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or a related field (preferred, not required.)
10+ years of field experience on commercial or complex construction projects.
Demonstrated leadership ability with a proactive, solutions-oriented approach.
